Drinks From the Past - Vintage Beer Jugs

Beer has long played an important role in America’s history. From the old gun slinging days, to present day, beer has had a prominent place among many people. Beer has played such an important role that there are many people that collect vintage breweriana. One such item of vintage breweriana are antique beer jugs.

Antique beer jugs have been around for quite some time. In the olden days, cowboys and settlers alike would carry beer jugs as they walked around the town. This is often depicted in western movies and television programs. There were also those individuals that purchased the beer jugs solely for the consumption of the alcohol for when they were at home. Sometimes, the vintage beer jugs would be used for special occasions, such as a holiday, a birthday, a wedding or an anniversary. The creation of the beer jugs was relevant at that period of time, as it was the only form of holding alcohol for a sufficient amount of time.

There are different types of vintage beer jugs that are available. The two popular versions of beer jugs was the tin and the ceramic beer jugs. These vintage beer jugs can often be found for purchase online, as well as in antique stores and flea markets. Although it is rare to find the original alcohol in a vintage beer jug, it is important for the purchaser of the jug not to consume the alcohol as it can make them very sick. This is not often the case, though, as the beer jugs are more than likely empty and have been washed out and sitting on a display shelf or in a dusty box. Therefore, it is often a great find when a vintage beer jug enthusiast can find an antique beer jug in mint condition. This is not uncommon, but is truly a sight that is rarely seen.

The prices of vintage beer jugs can vary. Some collectors may find that they are paying under a hundred dollars for a vintage beer jug, while others may find that they are paying several hundred dollars for the right collector’s piece. In the end, there is no price too big or too small that a vintage beer jug collector will pay to add to their vintage beer jug collection.
