Creating Memories with Vintage PEZ Dispensers

When people think of their favorite pastime toys, the PEZ candy dispenser may come to mind. PEZ has been in the market for nearly a century, so it comes as no surprise that PEZ is considered as a vintage toy. Some individuals may stipulate, however, that PEZ is not an antique toy, which in many instances, they are often mistaken.

PEZ originated in 1927 by an Austrian gentleman by the name of Edward Haas. He was seeking to create a peppermint for adults that could be transported in pocket-sized tins. Over 20 years later, in 1948, Haas created a dispenser for the PEZ, which is now known as the vintage PEZ dispenser. It was then that the PEZ mint dispenser was introduced to the United States. The now antique PEZ dispenser seemed to have become an overnight sensation. Everyone wanted to get their hands on a PEZ peppermint dispenser, especially the children, as it was now children friendly, too.

There are many individuals that will speculate as to which PEZ dispenser was created first, the Full Body Santa, or the Full Body Robot. Both dispensers are viewed as vintage, and although rare, can be seen being sold in auctions at antique prices. There are great locations that PEZ fans can find vintage dispensers, such as antique stores, and candy stores that carry vintage PEZ “heads” There are well over 300 PEZ dispensers that have been crafted for the market. It would come as no surprise that there are those that are highly rare, and those that are quite popular, that they are very difficult to find. When an individual finds such a vintage PEZ dispenser, they are often apt for keeping it for themselves.

There are many PEZ clubs that are created for the PEZ enthusiasts. These clubs can be found online, and there is often free membership for enrollment. Also, the PEZ company offers a PEZ fan club, which many fans often join. Thru such clubs, many individuals will often find that there are others that are looking for collectable vintage PEZ dispensers too. There are many collectors that are willing to trade duplicate PEZ dispensers for one that they do not have, or will sell the antique duplicate for money. It is well known that such dispensers can fetch over several hundred dollars for one candy dispenser.

Whether a PEZ fan is old or young, collecting PEZ dispensers are definitely for the young at heart. There are a lot of antique PEZ dispensers that are stashed away, just waiting to be discovered. Many people are amazed at how fond memories of their childhood will come flooding back with a vintage dispenser. New and lifelong collectors alike can appreciate the value that an antique PEZ dispenser can hold. There are indeed many memories that can be recollected and created with a vintage PEZ “head” dispenser.
